For over fifty years the collection of the Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain (FCAC) has participated in writing the history of artistic production in Geneva. However, there is another history that can only be found by reading between the lines: an alternative, self-generated culture that for more than 20 years has supported opportunities for exchange, spaces for exhibiting and producing art, the development of collective projects, and social engagement, often ephemeral and furtive.

Beginning with conversations on the work of some ten artists selected from the FCAC collection, the project draws complex connections between the artists, urban space, and institutions. The project’s title, based upon graffiti protesting the disappearance of squats in Geneva, illustrates the various issues at play. An installation opens a conversation with the public on cultural actors’ potential roles in intervening within urban spaces and art institutions.
